Rethink the Pen.
Reclaim the Plastic.

We partner with schools, colleges, and organisations across India to collect used pens and channel them into responsible recycling — reducing landfill waste, one pen at a time.

The Landscape

India is one of the world's largest consumers of ballpoint pens. The vast majority of these pens are made from polypropylene and polystyrene — plastics that do not biodegrade in any meaningful human timeframe. Once discarded, they enter municipal waste streams that lack the infrastructure to segregate or recycle small-format plastics.

Pens are consistently overlooked in recycling conversations. Unlike bottles or packaging, their small size makes them difficult to sort mechanically. As a result, they accumulate in landfills or end up in waterways, contributing to microplastic pollution across ecosystems.

Institutions such as schools, universities, and offices are among the highest-volume generators of pen waste, yet very few have a structured mechanism for collecting or diverting this material from landfill.

RePen India operates a structured pen collection and recycling programme designed for institutional partners. We provide collection infrastructure, logistics coordination, and certified recycling pathways — removing the complexity that prevents institutions from acting on this waste stream.

Our approach is built around simplicity for the partner: we supply designated collection units, schedule periodic pickups, and manage the downstream processing. Collected pens are disassembled, sorted by polymer type, and channelled to licensed recyclers equipped to handle small-format plastics.

Each partner institution receives documentation of their collection volumes and environmental contribution, supporting their own sustainability reporting and institutional commitments.

How It Works

Step 01

Register

Your institution signs up through our registration form. We assess your location and volume to plan logistics.

Step 02

Collect

We provide clearly marked collection units. Your staff and students deposit used pens over a defined period.

Step 03

Pickup

Our team coordinates periodic pickups at no cost to the institution. Collections are scheduled to suit your calendar.

Step 04

Recycle & Report

Pens are processed through certified recyclers. You receive a summary documenting volumes and impact.
